HONESTY

“I know I’ve lied” Into the night she cried

“I did it to save your tears”

“So many times across the years” he thought in silent calm.

“But mostly to protect yourself, Not to keep me from harm”.

“I have never asked you for the truth about your life”

She cried again “yet you hide behind your honesty

like some holy shield and wield it like a knife”

“Just because you’re honest it doesn’t make what you do OK.

It doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt or ease the pain away”.

She shouted at his impassive face. He mumbled back in turn

“I never lied “I love you” how would you have preferred to learn?”

“It’s not just about your bum looking big in a dress” He stared

“This is big (not your bum) you hurt not because of the truth  but you wanted love and all I did was care”.
