LOVE BY ANY OTHER NAME

I dared to say I love you but you asked me what I meant

You didn’t jump for joy and tell me that I was heaven sent

At first I was surprised and shocked and not a little hurt

but now I understand. – I need another word.

Well, I don’t mean dance hall love, shallow and lust inspired.

Nor the “say whatever it takes” type of love to get what you desire

Or the screaming out loud climax kind, that’s not love that can be heard I mean something quite different – I need another word.

Not “I think of you every day mum and I feel so alone”

Or the sickness I feel when I forget that you have gone

Not the “I wish you hadn’t died so soon” cries that go unheard.

It’s another type of love – I need another word.

Neither do I mean the love of “you’re alive because of me”

The enormous pride I feel in everything you achieve.

“I’m going to care for you for ever and give you the world

No, not that love. I need another word
